UT Medical Group, Inc.'s Division of Pulmonary Medicine in the Department of Medicine is comprised of physicians on the faculty of the University Of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis who offer both clinical and consultation services in Pulmonary, Critical Care, & Sleep Medicine and are certified or board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Pulmonary Medicine deals with diseases of the lung and the respiratory (breathing) system. Diseases include: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), also called chronic obstructive lung disease including asthma, bronchitis, bullous disease, emphysema, and pneumonia. COPD kills 85,000 people a year in the United States.

Pulmonologists use chest x-rays and chest exams to determine if there is any lung damage and, if so, the amount. That's one of the reasons doctors tap on your chest while listening with a stethoscope. They also use blood gas tests and MRIs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) among many other procedures. Pulmonologists also advise patients about prevention, including not smoking and reducing exposure to pollution. They may also recommend courses of diet and nutrition as well as vitamins, therapeutic drugs, and exercise programs.

Whether you are in need of specialized diagnosis and care of a medical condition, or you simply need an annual physical exam, UT Medical Group has doctors to meet your needs.

Patient care is our first concern. Often, illnesses affect many areas of the body and may require evaluation and treatment by several types of doctors. Our doctors can easily call on their colleagues in other specialties for consultation. Locations throughout the Memphis area make quality health care convenient to you and your family.
