Marital / Relationship problems About half of all American marriages end in divorce. Conflict in marriages may be relatively minor communication problems to more severe incidents of physical violence and infidelity. Although some conflict in relationships is normal, when the relationship is disrupted or physical harm occurs, professional help should be sought. Signs that signal the need for intervention include loss of trust or sexual desire, threat or actual acts of violence, feelings of abandonment or neglect, inability to communicate, or frequent angry arguments. Often, talking with a trained counselor can help the couple learn new behavior patterns so that problems can be discussed and resolved in a respectful manner. More severe problems can be addressed with other forms of therapy and/or medication. |
