Pediatric Ophthalmology
UT Medical Group has three pediatric ophthalmologists prepared to care for you and your family. They are trained to provide comprehensive eye care with expertise in childrens visual disorders, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye disorders and diseases. In addition, they know how to explain to children (and their parents and guardians) about eye problems and the procedures which can correct them.
Among problems common in children are Amblyopia, lazy eye; tear (lacrimal) duct problems which can interfere with normal eyesight; and Strabismus, misalignment of the eyes. UTMG pediatric ophthalmologists also treat adult patients with strabismus.
Ophthalmologists are required to complete a year or more of clinical training and at least three years in a residency program where they receive additional training in eye diagnosis and treatment. To practice a subspecialty such as pediatric ophthalmology, the ophthalmologist will train an additional year or more. UT Medical Group's pediatric ophthalmologists are tested and certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Patient information sheets on some of the more common conditions that affect children's eyes are available as downloadable pdfs.
