Cardiovascular Institute Surgery
UT Medical Group, Inc.'s division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Pediatrics is comprised of physicians on the faculty of the University Of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis who offer both clinical and consultation services and are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Once, many patients were forced to travel to Little Rock, Nashville, or Birmingham to obtain specialized care. “The addition of Umar Boston, M.D. as Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon offers opportunities for further development in this area of expertise,” says Dr. Chin.
Having an active cardiothoracic surgery service is just one more plus that will help to elevate Memphis reputation as the place to go for childrens heart care throughout the Mid-South region, says UTMG Vice President of Child Health Services, Lexanne Horton. About 90 percent of pediatric cardiology cases seen by other doctors in the region end up coming to the Memphis area for more specialized treatment, she says. Some of these highly complex procedures are available only at UTMG. Without the expertise of our physicians and support staff, many of these patients would be unable to receive their care locally.
In addition to caring for patients at UTMGs Medical Center and Germantown locations, the staff also offers clinics in a number of communities surrounding the Memphis area. Our doctors see patients during these visits and also offer consulting services such as echocardiography and EKG reading for primary care physicians.
Currently, UT Medical Group physicians make weekly visits to West Memphis, AR and Jackson, TN and offer monthly clinics in Corinth, MS. and Paragould, AR. Ms. Horton says the division is also reviewing the possibility of opening clinics in Tupelo, MS and Dyersburg, TN in the near future.
Our patients benefit from having access to some of the most advanced therapies available, including conventional and investigational medications, interventional procedures, and implantable devices.
