UT Medical Group, Inc.'s Division of Colon & Rectal surgery provides comprehensive care of patients with disorders of the colon, rectum, and anus. Our fellowship-trained Colon & Rectal Surgeons utilize state-of-the-art technology and minimally invasive approaches for the surgical treatment of:

- Autonomic nerve-preserving rectal resection
- Sphincter-preserving rectal resection
- Total mesorectal excision of rectal cancers
- Laparoscopic and open colon resection
- Laparoscopic and open restorative proctocolectomy
(J-pouch surgery)
- HALS (Hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery)
- Transanal excision of rectal tumors
- TEM (Transanal endoscopic microsurgery)
- Hemorrhoid procedures
- PPH (procedure for prolapsing hemorrhoids)
- Hemorrhoidal ligation
- Excisional hemorrhoidectomy
- Anal fistula plug placement
- Anal physiologic testing including
- Endorectal ultrasound
- Anorectal manometry
We work closely with other specialists including gastroenterologists, medical & radiation oncologists, gynecologists, and urologists for care of patients with complex disorders.
The UTMG Department of Surgery physicians maintain privileges at the major hospital systems in Memphis, including The Regional Medical Center (The Med), Baptist Memorial Hospital, Methodist University Hospitals of Memphis, and the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC).
