Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery covers a wide variety of procedures. It is called "plastic surgery" because the term "plastic" derives from the Greek word "plastikos", meaning "to mold" or "to give form." Plastic surgery falls into two categories: cosmetic and reconstructive.
Cosmetic or Aesthetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve a person's appearance, self-esteem and self-confidence.
Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body (caused by injury, disease, or birth defects) to improve function or to approximate a more normal appearance and to correct deformities present from birth, such as a cleft palate, or the results of injuries, diseases, or burns. Reconstructive procedures are generally considered medically necessary and are usually covered by insurance while cosmetic procedures are not.
Dr. Wallace and Dr. Lachica, both board certified surgeons, regularly perform each of the procedures listed below and are experienced and specially trained in each one. The UTMG Plastic Surgery Department staff is also knowledgeable about these procedures and will be able to give you thorough information to help you understand the benefits as well as the risks of each one. Please feel free to call our office at 901-347-8290 or (Toll Free) 1-800-733-0622 Option 3 for more information.
Patient care is our first concern. Often, illnesses affect many areas of the body and may require evaluation and treatment by several types of doctors. UT Medical Group doctors can easily call on their colleagues in other specialties for consultation.
