Transplant Institute
The Transplant Institute at Methodist University Hospital, staffed by UT Medical Group physicians, specializes in transplants of the kidney, liver, and pancreas. Since 1968, the program has performed over 1,800 kidney transplants with a five-year survival rate of over 90%. Since 1982, over 400 liver transplants have been performed with a success rate of 80% after three years. In addition, simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplants have been performed here since 1989.
Transplant surgery is an extended process that begins long before the surgery with extensive patient and donor evaluations. Doctors, nurse coordinators, and other specialists follow the progress of the patient with examinations and tests long after the operation. Lifestyle, family, and environment are all assessed to assure the best possible life for the patient.
UT Medical Group, Inc.'s department of Surgery is comprised of physicians and surgeons with numerous subspecialties. Our surgeons are nationally and internationally renowned, pioneering techniques and treatments for a variety of diseases, conditions, and disorders. Whether you are in need of specialized diagnosis or are referred to us by your primary care physician, UT Medical Group has surgeons who can solve your problems.
Patient care is our first concern. Often, illnesses affect many areas of the body and may require evaluation and treatment by several types of doctors. Our doctors can easily call on their colleagues in other specialties for consultation. Locations throughout the Memphis area make quality health care convenient to you and your family.
