Noted Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Presents Talk on Childhood Depression and Psychotropic Medications

David G. Fassler, M.D., child and adolescent psychiatrist at the University of Vermont, will present a program on childhood depression and the use of psychotropic medications on Friday, April 25, at 12 noon in the Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center Auditorium. Dr. Fassler is the 2008 Harrison Lectureship Distinguished Visiting Speaker in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Fassler is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and serves as clinical associate professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He is a trustee of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), a fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a board member of the Federation of Families for Children’s Health. A graduate of Yale University School of Medicine, he completed his training in adult psychiatry at the University of Vermont and his child psychiatry training at Cambridge Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He has testified on the behalf of the Academy and the APA before congressional committees and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

A prolific author, his publications include Help Me, I’m Sad—recognizing, treating and preventing childhood and adolescent depression. In appreciation for his efforts on behalf of children and families, Fassler has received an Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the Green Ribbon Award for advocacy and public education from the National Mental Health Association, and the Frances J. Braceland Award for Public Service from the American Psychiatric Association.
