UT Medical Group Appoints Chief Of Colon And Rectal Surgery

Dr. John W. Cromwell has joined UT Medical Group Inc. as chief of the division of colon and rectal surgery in the department of surgery. He has also been named associate professor of surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

A board-certified surgeon, Cromwell specializes in the treatment of patients with colon and rectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, including minimally invasive approaches. His other interests include anal incontinence, anal cancer, anal fissure, hemorrhoids, pelvic floor disorders, rectal prolapse, and stoma surgery.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, where he also completed his residency training in general surgery and fellowships in cancer research and surgical infectious disease. He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Texas in Houston. Most recently, he was assistant professor of surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa where he was on staff at Tampa General Hospital and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Center. Cromwell is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the Society for Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract.
