UT Medical Group Plastic Surgery Adds Specialist in Microvascular Techniques
Memphis, Tennessee (September 22, 2009) --Dr. Jon Ver Halen has joined the Department of Plastic Surgery at UT Medical Group’s Germantown office, where he specializes in microvascular breast, head and neck, and extremity reconstructive surgery.
“We are very fortunate to be able to recruit Dr. Ver Halen to Memphis,” says Dr. Robert Wallace, Chief of Plastic Surgery. “He adds a new level of microvascular reconstruction expertise to our department, particularly in the area of breast reconstruction.”
Ver Halen earned his medical degree from Harvard University and completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Washington. He comes to Memphis from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he recently completed a fellowship in microvascular surgery. The author or co-author of many peer-reviewed publications and presentations, Ver Halen is also active in clinical research. His current studies focus on the impact of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on patient outcomes after mastectomy and reconstruction, optimizing reconstructive strategies for complex extremity defects, minimally-invasive surgery, and composite tissue allotransplantation.
He is a member, or candidate member, of many professional organizations, including the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Cleft Palate/ Craniofacial Association, where he also serves on the Committee on Ethics.
