Bariatric Surgery Named Center of Excellence

The obesity surgery program at UT Medical Group and The Regional Medical Center (The MED) has been named an ASBS Bariatric Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation.

In order to be named an American Society for Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, a program must meet high standards regarding facilities, training, experience, and staff support. The program must also show that its patients have excellent short and long-term results and must provide a support group for patients who have undergone surgery.

Drs. Atul K. Madan and David S. Tichansky are co-directors for the program, based at 1325 Eastmoreland, Suite 550. Dr. Madan is also UT Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Section, and Dr. Tichansky is Assistant Professor of Surgery. Darnecia Garner is Clinic Manager and Whitney Orth is the program’s dietitian.
