| Pinworms
Pinworms are tiny worms that can live in the intestines. They are contagious ("catching"). Pinworm eggs are too small to see. They spread on sheets, underwear, hands, and food. All family members must take the medicine to get rid of pinworms.
Signs and symptoms:
- Itching in rectum, especially at night
- Restlessness, especially at night
- Seeing the tiny white worm in the rectum
What can you do?
- Take and give medicine as directed by the doctor.
- Wash hands and fingernails often, and always before eating or after using the bathroom.
- Keep fingernails short.
- Change underwear daily.
- After treatment, wash sheets and pajamas.
